Sitting Down With Erkan Kemiksizgil of Enabled Media

3 minute read

Over the last decade, Erkan Kemiksizgil of Enabled Media has figured out a way to have sustained success as an Internet Marketer. We had a chance to have a short interview with him on how he pulled it off, as well as how much he enjoys life in the Big Apple.

What attracted you to Internet marketing initially? Also, what has kept you in the industry for over a decade now?

I was somebody who always had an interest in marketing, and it just so happened that Internet marketing was taking off when I really started to get into the industry. I realize that the future was without question going to be online, so I figured it was a waste of time to heavily invest in more traditional options.

After having some initial success, I continued to work in the industry and learn as much as possible so that I can stay ahead of what was generally considered new technology.

You’re in a tough industry, no doubt. Why do you think you’re successful?

For starters, I was able to get in early, so that definitely helps. However, this is an industry that is always changing, so a person must always be educated on the latest trends. If I were to try to use the same things I learned 10 years ago, I would not survive more than a week.

I’m constantly reading, talking with others in the industry and more to gain insight. It also is important to apply everything I’ve learned and make improvements when necessary.

How do you handle challenges, adversity, and when things don’t go as planned?

It’s pretty naive to think that every single idea you come up with is going to work as a marketer. The important thing is to try what might sound promising, and then know when it is time to abort. A lot of times, people will stick with something that clearly is not working for way too long.

The more options that are tried, the better off a person is going to be. Eventually, a few things are going to work, and then it’s about applying that again and again.

If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere as they say. How does living in NYC keep you competitive and on your toes?

I look at living and working in New York City as a positive instead of a negative. Yes, there are times in which I just want to get away and have some peace and quiet, but it is important to make connections in my industry. There are so many different people trying to make it around me that it is very motivating. I feel like we all feed off of each other to really have success.

I know that if I need a meeting, I can have something set up in a matter of hours in New York City. If I was located elsewhere, it would take a lot longer.

When you’re away from the desk and not working, how do you like to kickback and unwind?

Even though I’ve lived in New York City for a while now, I still feel like there’s so much to discover. When I have some free time, I like to go to different parts of the city and really explore as much as possible. Some people get stuck staying in their same neighborhood all the time and not really seeing all that is out there. This is one of the biggest cities in the world, so there is always something new to do.
