Dr. Keshia Gaines on Educational Success, Learning on the School Bus, and New Booklet Initiative

Ladies and gentlemen, we have famous author Dr. Keshia Gaines available to answer a few questions for new and previous fans. Thank you so much for the interview!

  1. Dr. Gaines, please introduce yourself to your new readers and fans.

Hello everyone! I am Dr. Keshia L. Gaines, a Ph.D. graduate from The University of Southern MS. I enjoy reading and writing books, teaching on various academic levels, and working on ways to improve education in America. Also, I am the author of “Learning on the School Bus: A Reading Comprehension and Creative Writing Workbook for Secondary Students.” So far, I have accomplished many things in the education field.

Dr. Gaines’s E-mail Address/ Fan Club:

  1. What inspired you to want to become an educator?

Well, there is a great need to improve education in America. In my opinion, educators are very important because we teach all the other professions (doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, accountants, etc.). When education improves overall, our society improves overall.

  1. You offer children’s books that will help kids learn on the school bus and other areas. Why is it essential to find alternative methods of education in today’s society?

Since the current methods of educating children are not very successful, I created a method that will allow students to learn in various areas during the school day. Currently, most schools just teach students in a box, called a classroom, even though the brain is capable of learning in other settings. A lot of the school day is non-academic during transitions, at the bus stop, on the school bus, in the cafeteria, on the playground, and other areas, so I have made these areas into learning environments to increase academic achievement. I call my new learning technique the “Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop” Learning Method.

  1. It sounds like you are a very busy professional. When you are not working, what do you like to do for fun? What are your favorite hobbies, Dr. Gaines?

Oooh, I love to do fun things! My husband and I have young children, so we frequently watch fun movies, go to video arcades, attend birthday parties, etc. Besides that, I enjoy bird watching and feeding, cruising in my antique car, and traveling to promote my book. I really enjoy visiting Miami, Las Vegas, and New York.

  1. Please tell us more about your Ph.D. experience?

I consider my Ph.D. to be one of the most challenging things I have ever done. Many people do not realize that a lot of sacrifice goes into studying, writing papers, conducting research, and completing a dissertation on a Ph.D. level. After high school, I graduated from The University of Southern MS for my bachelor’s degree (B.A.), William Carey College for my master’s degree (M.Ed.), and USM again for my doctorate degree (Ph.D.). In total, I have been in college for approximately 11 years!

  1. Can you tell us more about your free booklet initiative?

Oh sure. I wanted to do something positive for local schools, churches, and senior care facilities, so I decided to give away over 1,000 free activity booklets. The booklet is called “Learning on the School Bus: Activity Booklet 1A.” I wrote and illustrated the booklets and they include word searches, vocabulary charts, drawing lessons, and other fun learning activities.

  1. Dr. Gaines, what are the future goals for yourself and your brand(s)?

Oh, I plan on continuing to work in the education field. I would like to publish a new book and/or booklet every year or so. Also, I am working on new designs for my clothing line which features multiplication facts and academic content on clothes. Besides education books and inventions, I designed a model for a “Theft Proof Store” which features merchandise behind industrial glass or plexiglass with a system of conveyor belts and automated computer systems for customers. I have a lot of new ideas, so stay tuned.

For now, new readers can buy a copy of my worldwide book “Learning on the School Bus” at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other book stores.
