In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz today, Sony Interactive Entertainment ensured that they will skip participating E3 this year again and instead they will attain in hundreds of consumer events all over the world. This company been one of the biggest exhibitors of the show for two decades, last year missed the show for the first time. The company is planning to launch PlayStation 5 in this holiday season.
As an organization, Sony Interactive Entertainment has a great respect for ESA, but Sony feels like the vision of E3 2020 is not appropriate venue for what they planned for this year. In lieu, participating in hundreds of consumer events over the world to showcase upcoming games for PS4 and PS5 will develop their global events strategy in 2020, as the company told GamesIndustry.biz.
From the very beginning, the PlayStation used the E3 as a venue for presenting the details of its next consoles, attending the first E3 event in 1995 to talk in detail about the launch of the original PlayStation in the USA. The company’s success at E3 2013 was seen as an important moment in the creation of the PS4, as a result of which Sony regained its leadership in the market from the Xbox.
Nintendo has not held an official E3 press conference for many years, but it still has a booth where visitors can play their games and broadcast live. Before missing the event last year, Sony used the E3 to rise new consoles as well as flagship games, although concentrating on other events gives it more flexibility when it announces the main news.
