Facebook Starts Testing News, Its New Section for Journalism

A new section of Facebook that was formerly reported to be imminent is now here: The company is now rolling the Facebook news out in a restricted test across the US as a bookmark and a home screen tab in the major Facebook app. The vice president of the global news partnership of Facebook named Campbell Brown and product manager of Facebook named Mona Sarantakos in a blog post said that the news articles will resume to appear in the Facebook’s news feed and creating a particular tab would focus only on journalism which will give the general people a control over their stories, in addition, it will give the capability to explore a broad range of the news interests directly within Facebook app. Both Campbell and Mona also said that the News tab had been developed after the consultation with the publishers and also was based on the feedback survey of over 100,000 Facebook users across the US.

Now it is like Facebook News will utilize both the algorithms as well as the human editors to estimate the stories we see. More specifically, there will be a separated section which will be called today’s Stories and it will be curated by an expert group of journalists to focus on the greatest national news stories.

At the same period, the Facebook will too provide the algorithmic story based on the interests and activities of the users. Each will be able to surpass topics, publishers and articles which they don’t want to see.
