Whether you’re a startup, small business, or established enterprise, it’s important to have online visibility.  An eye-catching website, video, or logo can make for a great marketing strategy. Even if you’re working with a tight budget, you can still get quality results. In my latest Q and A interview, I had the chance to speak with Matt Smith, founder of First Fortune Marketing (www.firstfortunemarketing.com). Check out his tips and advice for online marketing success.

  1. Q: Can you tell us about yourself and/ or First Fortune Marketing?

A: My name is Matt Smith and I own First Fortune Marketing. We specialize in helping small businesses on the web. Our business mainly revolves around graphic/web design, development, and marketing.

  1. Q: Your company has such a dynamic name. What’s the inspiration behind it?

A: That’s a great question! Can I just say it sounded catchy at the time? I think the underlying meaning behind the name comes from our favorite clients. While we do work on big projects with monster budgets, our favorite by far is working with the small companies. Entrepreneurs who are looking to make it in business for their very first time and hopefully gather a small fortune while having lots of fun along the way.

  1. Q: You offer a variety of web, marketing, and production services.   Which services are the trendiest?

A: I think the big two right now are web design and video. Many businesses are starting to see the advantages of going away from DIY websites and into something professional. It’s safe to say 99% of all businesses have competition online and nearly all would like that extra edge.

Video has really become a great way to communicate with your customers. It’s a very vibrant platform online. You can use it for marketing, customer education, and even as a tool to increase conversion rates. Around the web video is easier to share than ever and so popular that you can get huge followings from that alone.

  1. Q: What is your favorite social media platform and why?

A: This is a terribly hard question and very easy at the same time. I see benefits from using many different social media platforms. Usually no two businesses are the same when it comes to this. Ten posts for one company on Instagram could generate 50 posts worth of Facebook attention and vice versa. Study what works best for you and your time. Now onto my favorite! Reddit, hands down it’s Reddit. It’s a place where you don’t necessarily need months of generating a following to make a huge impact. Creativity and originality really can go a long way there. Not to mention one really catchy post, and it could be your very first post, can deliver enough traffic to crash smaller websites.

  1. Q: What’s the most exciting aspect about what you do?

A: By far the most exciting aspect of what I do is working with new business owners. Startups are usually just pumped so full of energy and passion. It’s refreshing to work with people who are immersed in something new to their life and eager to become successful.

  1. Q: Do you have any success tips for our readers?

A: Make changes. It’s really that simple. If you are wanting to start a business make changes so you can. If you are running a business and things aren’t moving forward, make changes. The most important of all… when things are going well, make changes. Normally changes, even to very successful businesses, can make things a whole lot better.
